Graduate Student Day is an annual event organized by the Centre for Leadership and Learning (CLL), The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), and the Graduate Student Association (GSA). Last year close to 800 graduate students participated in Graduate Student Day, but this year more than 1000 students are expected. The day is comprised of a variety of workshops to develop teaching skills for new and experienced TAs, a formal welcome from the President, the Provost and the dean of Graduate Studies, and an entertaining and thought-provoking talk and lunch. The day ends with a BBQ sponsored by the Centre for Leadership in Learning and Graduate Students Association at the Phoenix Bar and Grill. This year, Jorge Cham, creator and author of Piled Higher and Deeper (Ph.D. Comics) was invited as a keynote speaker. His lecture, entitled "Academic Stimulus Package" was met with laughter and applause as he recounted his experiences as a graduate student. Visit Jorge Cham's website at www.phdcomics.com
